Not a request/proposal, but… If “boss monster” has been aliased to “undertale”, do we just tag boss monsters “goat” now? (and “darkner” in Ralsei’s case)
Okay, so I looked it up (I have not played anything Undertale) and it turns out I was misguided as to what a boss monster is supposed to be. I’ll unalias it.

Also, this is off-topic, but when I type in tags my little pony: g3 or my little pony: g3.5 and search, I get no results. At first I thought the symbol : causes issues, but the G4 and G5 tags work just fine.
No idea what’s going on there, but you ca get around it by searching *g3 instead.

Here’s the list of category names:
  • error (red): invalid/ambiguous tags
  • origin (purple, director: (1) and artist: namespaces): Artists and directors
  • character (teal): canon characters
  • oc (magenta, oc: namespace): original characters
  • species (brown): self-explaining
  • body-type (grey): the “pairing” tags like adult/cub, plus their component parts (e.g. feral, anthro, boy…), and various related body-shape and age terms (e.g. kid, shota, plantigrade, slender, chubby etc.)
  • content-official (yellow): franchises, series, brands, holidays…
    • Note that with a few exceptions, unlike e621 we don’t do company-level copyrights. I believe “Disney” is the only significant one (unless you count a couple thematic ones like “mascot” and “holiday”). There’s a couple other tags that may be created or evolve into that but only have one character in them so far (studio ghibli, kelloggs, marvel…).
  • content-fanmade (pale pink, series: namespace): fanmade settings and image series that do not require a specific galery order
  • spoiler (orange): this is was repurposed as the category for medias/techniques/tools
  • rating (blue): there are currently seven rating tags tags:
    • “safe” cannot be combined with other rating tags
    • “suggestive”, “nude only”, and “explicit” are sexual ratings, only one of them can be used on an image
    • “grimdark”, “grotesque” and “non-con” are (I think) otherwise normal tags assigned to the “rating” category and can be used in any combination together or with sexual ratings (but not with “safe”)
(1) Tags with namespace prefixes are assigned to that category automatically, otherwise, the category must be assigned manually

I see.
I just found multiple instances of the same misspelling: huamnoid penis
Done. Actually I rampaged through all tags with “penis” in them and aliased/deleted a whole bunch of duplicates/unneeded/ambiguous/misspelled tags. Fixed/clarified a couple names too.

The category with tags like pokemon, paw patrol, undertale, the lion king, my little pony, etc… I tried searching on the Tags page with category:franchise, category:series, category:copyright, category:origin (which I found is the purple category mainly for artist and director tags), and I ran out of ideas.

Also I don’t know if it’s possible to alias tags that don’t currently exist, but I think aliasing oc x canon and oc/canon to canon/oc would add convenience, the order of the characters listed doesn’t matter anyway.
Nah, you have to first tag something using the image edit/upload before the tag can be used for anything else (including e.g. aliasing to and from, implying to, and the mass tagging tool). It’s a pain in the ass, and I would rather not do it unless/until incorrect usages start actually showing up in imports 😅

if you see a tag with listed use count higher than the actual images or no actual images, that’s because blacklisted tags are bafflingly still created and have their uses increased when attempts are made to apply them!
I noticed. It misleads me into thinking some blacklisted tags are valid.

genderbend + crossgender (used on E621)
I WAS wondering why that particular bluey pic didn’t get tagged XD. Both done.
Infodum follows:
turns out I hadn’t registered Pup prefers genderbend and it seems that “crossgender” was even previously blacklisted lol. For context, if you see a tag with listed use count higher than the actual images or no actual images, that’s because blacklisted tags are bafflingly still created and have their uses increased when attempts are made to apply them! there were 19 “uses” of crossgender, but only 2 images.
Only mods can fix this by either aliasing such a tag (aliasing them away or aliasing a different tag to them works equally well) or manually directing the software to recalculate actual uses. there does not appear to be a “mass update tag counts” function that is easily accessible. At least if there is one, Pup didn’t know about it when I asked them!

Unrelated. That’s because of an unintuitive aspect of Philomena aliases: partial search will return the “corrected” form of a matching alias even if the canonical tag has not a single letter in common with the aliased one.
And as it happens, “pokemon fusion” is aliased to “hybrid”…

I found that if I search “pokemon*”, it gives some results that aren’t even tagged “pokemon”, “pokemon (series)” or “pokemon something”. I have no idea what causes such behaviour.

polar bear and arctic bear should be aliased, with polar bear being prioritised because that’s the proper name.
Unless there’s some sort of copyright on “arctic bear” I missed…

I found the tag “commando” interesting, it’s not used just because the character has no underwear, but because they’re also wearing clothing that would normally suggest presence of underwear (pants, shorts, skirt, dress).
I don’t think it’s implicated to nudity. Mind you, nudity of some sort usually must occur for Commando-ing to be noticeable 🤣

I actually reversed the diaper -> grotesque implication a few days ago. Until Pup can clarify whether grotesque is supposed to be excluding or not (non-con does not exclude other ratings, and in fact I can make any other tags a rating tag in theory), I won’t restore it.

If you do not specify a field to search over, the search engine will search for posts with a body that is similar to the query's word stems. For example, posts containing the words winged humanization, wings, and spread wings would all be found by a search for wing, but sewing would not be.
